JOHANNES G. PETERS 1921 - 2013
CHICOPEE – Johannes G. Peters, 91, a resident of Chicopee for the past 53 years, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. Born in Sumatra, Padang, Indonesia on July 26, 1921, he was the son of the late Johannes and Daramah Peters. “John”, as he was known, served in the Royal Netherlands Navy for 24 years during World War II and the period following with the capacity of Steam Engineer and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. While in this country, he was employed by New England Container, received United States certification as a steam engineer and went on to work at Holyoke Hospital, Hercules Chemical Company and he retired from the former Texon Paper Co. in South Hadley. John and his wife, Marie Peters, would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 31 of this year. Besides his wife, he is also survived by his son, Raymond James Peters of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, his daughter and her husband, Heidi Joan Gosselin and Roger Gosselin of Forestdale, Cape Cod, MA, his 9 grandchildren who will always remember “Opa”, Nathan Gosselin, Monique Cowing and her husband David and Robert, Ricky, Jessica, Matthew, Christopher, Zachary & Jacob Peters and a great grandson, R. J. Peters. A funeral home service will be held on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 in the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee at 10 a.m. with the family gathering to greet friends beginning at 9:15 a.m. Burial will follow the service in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Chicopee.
